Description
This early fall scene of abandoned railroad bridge was captured while hiking in Hawley, Pennsylvania located in the Pocono Mountains. The borough of Hawley was named for Irad Hawley, first president of the Pennsylvania Coal Company.
The Delaware & Hudson (D&H), a successful mining and railroad company, shipped anthracite coal and lumber from the Lackawanna Valley in northeastern Pennsylvania to the East Coast of the U.S. and to Canada. As the supply of coal and lumber were depleted from the area, the need for the railroad diminished, and the rail-trail came into being. This part of the abandoned track runs through Hawley and can be viewed from the center of town. This beautiful early autumn capture of the railroad bridge is perfect wall art for any Railroad lover.
