Description
For more than 1,000 years pilgrims have traveled along the many Caminos to Santiago de Compostela, Spain. The modern day pilgrim carries a "passport" as proof of his/her journey. The tomb of Santiago ("Saint James") is believed to be located under the Cathedral in the old city, and there's the possibility to visit its tomb and even hug the sculpture that represents the saint. It is considered a holy year when St. James birthday falls on a Sunday. I captured this image in 2010, a "holy year". The old city was swarming with pilgrims, many waiting in long lines to enter the cathedral.
