Artist's Description

The Anhinga Bird is a water bird found in warmer climates. This was was found while walking the Green Cay Nature Center and Wetlands in Boynton Beach, Florida. Also known as snake bird or water turkey, the anhinga is a year-round resident of Florida. The word anhinga comes from the Brazilian Tupi language and means devil bird or snake bird. This bird has the habit of swimming with just its long head and neck sticking out of the water. I captured this one sunning itself to dry out it's feathers. Unlike some aquatic birds, all of the body feathers become completely wet upon contact with the water, allowing them to dive through the water more easily. This feature, however, causes them to have little buoyancy, to lose heat quickly, and hinders flight.

Through my website I am taking my passion to the next level by offering my images that provide the viewer with photographic art. My goal is to convey a message, a story, or simply share the sheer...
