Introducing A Game-changing Feature: Automated Image Keywords And Descriptions

Hi everyone

In the realm of digital content, the importance of proper metadata cannot be overstated. However, many users find themselves either uncertain of how to effectively fill out keywords and descriptions or simply overlook this crucial step in the rush of uploading images. This oversight can significantly hamper discoverability on search engines and other platforms, limiting the potential reach and impact of the uploaded content.

Recognising this challenge, we are thrilled to unveil an innovative solution designed to streamline the process of metadata management. Thanks to the ingenious work of Sean, our dedicated developer, we are proud to introduce a ground-breaking feature on our platform.

This new addition to our site automatically populates keywords and descriptions for uploaded images, eliminating the need for users to manually input this information. It's a game-changer, offering unparalleled convenience and efficiency to content creators and curators alike.

Having personally put this feature to the test, I can attest to its remarkable effectiveness. With minimal effort on my part, the system provided flawless descriptions for all my images, significantly enhancing their visibility and accessibility.

One of the key advantages of this feature is its seamless integration with existing IPTC metadata. For those who have already filled out their image metadata, there's no need to worry – our system will preserve your input. However, for those who have left their metadata blank or incomplete, our automated solution steps in to ensure that no image goes unnoticed.

Furthermore, users have the flexibility to supplement or modify the autogenerated metadata according to their preferences. Whether you want to add additional keywords or fine-tune the descriptions, the choice is yours.

Starting now, (well in a few minutes from my clicking submit here), this feature will be enabled by default for all new images uploaded to our platform. Additionally, for those who wish to retroactively apply this functionality to previously uploaded images, our team is more than happy to assist.

In conclusion, our automated image keywords and descriptions feature represents a significant leap forward in enhancing the discoverability and accessibility of digital content. With this innovative tool at your disposal, you can unleash the full potential of your images without the hassle of manual metadata management. Join us as we revolutionise the way you showcase your visual creations!!!

ADDITION. STOPPING IT WORKING

If you do not wish to avail yourself of this addition, please go to DEFAULT SETTINGS and turn it off.

ADDITION 2. HARVESTING IMAGES

This is not stealing your images, or harvesting them. This AI is already trained and reads the images PURELY to say what's on then and to populate the spaces. It is not, I repeat, not harvesting the images.

ADDITION 3. OLDER UPLOADS

This only works on new uploads at present. However, please contact me if you'd like older ones done. I'll see if Sean can do that for you. It won't be instant as he's fixing things right now elsewhere that needed doing, like the cache and search :-) but....From Judy Vincent...
If you go to edit the image, first remove all your description and key words. Then just under the photo while in edit mode, you click on "change image". Then you basically just re-load the same image again and the new description and key words will appear. You can then add to it and tweak them.

Wao! So we don't need to add keywords or descriptions. Thanks a lot for all the work, Abbie and Sean!

May I ask, please, if I write a brief description will the system adds up to it or I should write nothing at all for the system to step in?

This is fantastic news! Thank you Abbie for letting us know about it. And a great big thank you to Sean for continuing to give us the best POD out there!

This a very, very nice addition!! Thank you to Sean for giving us this feature.

Gramerly added AI that allowed anyone using it to look up the subject of your images automatically form a very short description you entered. I have been using it for over a year now.

A short description like "Tell me about Morro Rock in Morro Bay, California" would return a short but very adequate description. If you want a longer description, you can ask for it to be more detailed or descriptive. That more detailed description would give you words you could add to your keywords.

This new system that Sean is introducing goes a step further by doing the keywords.

Looking forward to using it.

That sounds fascinating. I look forward to its discovery. I also be interested in what this can do to update or modernize old images.

Are there instructions or an explanation for how it works, or is it just going to work in the background?

If you add nothing at all, the system will do it for you

If you have added meta to the image so it populates on upload, it will not do anything.

You may add to it or remove it as you wish in edit

Floyd Snyder

Will it work on editing an existing image? I don't see how to access it.

Abbie Shores

We have to do that for you, Floyd, right now

It will only edit ones that are empty

Looks good. I've been using chatGPT and Claude, I like being able to nudge the results in the direction I want, especially in terms of specifying mood, or inspiration or something more abstract.

Floyd Snyder

Well, when the uploader is not working right, I will upload images with just the title and artist name, leaving everything else empty, then go back and edit. I did that and then went to edit so I guess that means it will not work in edit more ever if the keywords and description is epty

test result:

I loaded the following image:
https://fineartamerica.com/featured/the-rialto-bridge-venice-italy-robert-yaeger.html?newartwork=true

The image load takes a little longer than previous, but the key words and description were automated with:

Keywords: "venice, bridge, canal, gondola, reflection, water, sunlight, architecture, balustrades, black and white."
NOTE to programmer: there was a period at the end of the last entry, and I thought the country, "Italy" should have been included as a basic key word.

Description: "A stone bridge with ornate balustrades spans over a canal where a gondola and its passengers glide through the water. Sunlight filters through the arch, casting a bright reflection on the water and creating a striking contrast with the shaded areas."

Very nice time saving tool! I added to the description, and also will likely add more key words for future entries, but this is a great help!
Thank you very much!

Much appreciated. A major time saver and will certainly help many with keywords to add in for their description.

Gracias!

Floyd Snyder

Okay, really cool.

A couple of comments/questions.

First, it only entered ten keywords. I entered an additional 9. Am I wasting my time adding keywords?

The description was excellent but much shorter than I usually use. Again, am I wasting my time by writing longer descriptions?

I what to also add that using the description that FAA entered and then asking Gramerly to make it more detailed and friendly gave me an excellent finished product.

Nancy Griswold

Really GLAD we can modify and add on.

Allen Beatty

This is fantastic !!

Question ? If your images are already filled in with keywords (as mine are) and you delete all the keywords, will the uploader be aware of that and then fill in with new keywords ?

Abbie Shores

Allen, I will double check. They will not be populated unless we do that for you, as the image is already loaded. However I will check if that is the case if you remove them. I should imagine so

EDIT

Right now, it only works if a new image is uploaded and that new image doesn't have any embedded keywords or description.

Ed Taylor

I was going to ask the question but Abbie already answered. I Iike to populate the keywords before upload so the image is keyworded in my computer as well and not just online.

If one does that the auto keyworder takes no action when uploaded to FAA.

Dale Kincaid

I did a test to compare what I already uploaded earlier today with a new version.

https://fineartamerica.com/featured/cleveland-library-eastman-garden-gates-dale-kincaid.html?newartwork=true

The 10 keywords are basic and generic, but accurate. The description is basic with a little speculation. It is very good as it is and a good start to customizing. I', not sure about the categorizing.

Here is the image I uploaded earlier in a vertical format.

Thank you, Abbie. Good to know. I suspected that to be the case but good to have it verified.

Here's another tip for descriptions for Gramerly users. Highlight the FAA-supplied description and then ask Gramerly to make it more detailed. You will get a lot more search terms in Gramerly's detailed description.

Is the system up yet? Do I have to do anything to get my art on it?

Mike Savad

@barbara, its there now. You have to have no description or keywords, it fills it in.

Though I haven't checked since I posted to tech, for some reason its been stripping the term AI from my keywords and adding a comma in the very start of my words. Has been for a while as I can't find much of my own AI work. It never removed words before and can't imagine why that would be removed.

----Mike Savad

The comma will be left after a keyword has been removed

Hi so is this new feature already installed in the fine arts when I upload my image, your saying it will automatically be there as soon as I upload my image correct

Also I would like my old images with this feature and you said to contact you if I need help with it cause I do

Nikolyn McDonald

Pretty impressed to find that when I uploaded a picture of a gibbon tonight the "spooky AI thing", as my friend calls it, included "gibbon" as the first keyword. Not animal or mammal, not primate or even ape, but gibbon!

I'm adding everyone to the list. I can't do it but have passed it to Sean...

Has the automatic keyworder stopped working for anybody else? It just gave me a blank description and keywords last night after numerous attempts. I have tried it this morning on several files and it still isn't working, at least for me.

Jessica Jenney

Abbie, will it just be for images without descriptions?

Charles Trinkle

Abbie I love the feature, but had an issue yesterday . I uploaded an image and entered it in a contest. A few minutes later I noticed that AI had not entered the species correctly. I edited the image, and today I find out the image is no longer in the contest after voting has started.

Gill Billington

Did you read the rules for that competition carefully. I think it’s more likely that the person running it deleted it.

You could email the organiser and ask them.

Charles Trinkle

Yes, I read the rules and the contest administrator says she didn’t remove it.

Nikolyn McDonald

I've been having the same problem as others have mentioned: the automatic keyworder leaves the description blank, even after numerous attempts. I have tried it this morning on several files and it still isn't working, at least for me. I do not use Lightroom and have never had embedded key words - these are the same kinds of files I've uploaded in the past.

Lindley Johnson

I uploaded an hour or so ago; the keywords and descriptions were added without an issue.

Mo Barton

I just uploaded an image and whereas in the past the key words and description were auto generated, today nothing appeared. I have not changed any settings.

Mike Savad

@mo - did you have any keywords etc filled in before hand? Because I don't think it fills in anything if one or the other has something there.

It's a glitch that happens occasionally.

Just go back to the previous page and reupload the image.

Thank You...I will reload in future.

Today it worked perfectly first time.

Nikolyn McDonald

When this was first instituted a month ago, it worked wonderfully for me every time - both key words and descriptions. Now I almost never get descriptions . . . and I have gone back and re-done, waited hours and re-done, waited days and re-done . . . still nothing. And no, I do not have any embedded keywords. I have never used a program that does that. For me, it simply doesn't work for the descriptions anymore.

Edit to say - or at least it very frequently does not work for the descriptions, even when it offers key word suggestions.

Mike Savad

Maybe the AI is on strike and joined a union? Or the AI is too smart and knows it can do better than make descriptions... Its writing a screen play.

----Mike Savad

Rose Santuci-Sofranko

If you have any EXIF data attached to your photos, I believe Abbie said AI won't fill in anything.

Mike Savad

Sure would be nice to have a button by the boxes. Or a suggestions or even a rewrite option on site.

Jessica Jenney

I rarely have any problem with this feature.

This is a great feature to have. Much appreciated.

So I haven’t been uploading much lately and haven’t seen this asked…. When I view one of my images, the page only lists 4-5 keywords even though I entered many more. My entered keywords are still retained with the image but are they searchable or are only the AI keywords searched?
